Thanks for the compliments!

Frostie, I already have the figures I need for two more armies. The first will be barbarian humans (with some allied giants and dwarves) using mainly Copplestone figures. The first units of infantry and giants are done, and reinforcements are ready for painting. The second will be an elf army using Magister Militum and Demonworld figures. I painted a unit of knights earlier this year for the elf war host and plan to paint more in the next year.

After that, I’m not sure which direction I’ll go with the 15mm armies. I have a loose plan for a force based on Riders of Rohan, and some following common GW tropes like lizardmen and ratmen, but am unsure what I will be in the mood for.

A nice looking Orc army! Are the units on circular bases skirmish or special units? (not sure which ruleset you play).

Mikal, thanks for the compliment!

The figures on the round bases represent commanders or special characters like magicians or heroes. I planned the army around the Fantastic Battles rules set (by Nic Wright, who sometimes posts on LAF as IrregularWarsNic), but it could easily be used with Warmaster or most other mass battle games. It will definitely be seeing some use with Midgard when I receive my copy later this month!

Thanks Hobgoblin!

The orc army is assembled for battle!

At the front, two bands of sneaky scouts and two swarms of wolfriders. Behind them come four regiments of expendable snaga orcs with mixed bows and melee weapons to soften up the enemy line. Next, two greater trolls, three battle chariots, heavy bodyguard orcs, and a mob of stone trolls. Finally, three units of common orcs and a unit of bodyguards with pikes. Scattered throughout are characters: the warlord, an orc wizard and a goblin shaman, and some captains to pass along orders.

Someday I’ll get around to making a camp and some baggage.

Any pointers on your trees? I quite like them.

The trees are cheap ones from China that I bought in bulk on eBay about 10 years ago. I haven’t looked for more recently but I expect you can still find them there. I did upgrade the foam they had for foliage. The original colours were too dark, so I dabbed on watered down cheap matte acrylic varnish and sprinkled on a mix of green flock (the same mix I use on the figure bases). I think basing the trees in groups with a couple sizes on each base also helps give a “natural” look.

Thanks Neldoreth and batu, it took a while to finish the army but I’m quite happy with how it turned out. My next 15mm stuff will be adding to the barbarians. I have a few units primed and ready to go. May swap to some other stuff first, though, like painting my war rig, as a change of pace.

An excellent thread! Congratulations. Finishing an Army is always great (and rarely happens)!

Looking forward to seeing the barbarians.
