Cork Pillars - Cheap and very easy
« on: 12 January 2021, 02:20:31 AM »
I made some pillars to go with my other 28mm fantasy terrain. They are really easy and quick to make (they took about an hour) from zero to table top.

Although they don't really need it I did a short tutorial on my blog @: https://this28mmlife.blogspot.com/2021/01/cork-pillars-quick-fantasy-terrain.html

Below is a link to my blog. It's the place where I write uninteresting things about little toy soldiers. I do this because I refuse to grow up and behave like an adult.

Apologies for the awful threadomancy, but this is such a great idea - and insanely effective - that it should come back even if it was nearly three years ago. There's almost no setting I can think of where I wouldn't use these - barbarians raiding an sinister temple, chain-clad armies battling over fields where ancestral monuments mark ancient oaths, Dwarven heroes defending their halls from waves of Goblins, mustachioed adventurers braving the darkness of no human aspect, far-future super-warriors hunting aliens and heretics among the crumbling ruins of the Empire of Man... everywhere has pillars!

I, too, have some corks. Not a big bag of plastic ones, I have the other sort, the expensive ones you get one at a time. Often, though, you get a free bottle of wine with them, which is some compensation.

I will be making some pillars with them. Having seen people using corks in a couple of places, with slightly different takes on the capitals and bases, these are my favourite, and it's the use of the bases for capitals I think that set them off.

So, I have ordered some bases, and I hope soon will be showing off my own (not doubt sadly inferior!) copies of these lovely pieces.

Nice work!  Left a post on your blog.  Love these columns:  fast, easy, simple, effective.  I may need to order me some corks...  Cheers!
