Gangs of Rome Project - Italian velites
« on: 23 February 2025, 06:53:10 AM »
Finally got started on filling out my gangs of Rome project. My project is set in the Italian provinces during the social war so I can mix it up even more. I am also thinking I will set my city with a port so I can add more foreign or pirate elements to the game.

First up some Italian Hastati

Cheers
Matt

wow. Very unique looking unit.  Love the all white plumes.   A mix of  Agema and Victrix if I'm not mistaken ?

Not to be picky  :D, but the social war started in 91 BC, so the distinction between Hastati, Princeps, Triarii, and Velites had almost completely disappeared, the then contemporary sources tend to only mention cohorts. On top of that the difference in equipment between Italian Allies and Romans should be minimal.

They look great! And I think one can assume a lot of the old gear would still be in circulation, so don't worry about the pre-marian equiptment.
