That's in the Odenwald. Your ancestors came from one of the most beautiful areas of Hesse. Hilly and forested with idyllic villages with a lot of half-timbered houses still standing plus many castle ruins.

I visited once in 2015, it was very beautiful and Klein-Gumpen has a carved wooden sign proclaiming it "Das Schone Dorf." I stayed at a half-timber inn in Heppenheim and visited a few castle ruins during the trip, and the town's millennia old Roman wine cellar.
