FFL v. Arabs in the Shamla Valley
« on: April 11, 2025, 06:13:23 PM »
Finally got back to The Sword & The Flame, one of my early loves in wargaming.

Battle report, humorous references and numerous pics here:
https://upthebluefow.blogspot.com/2025/04/the-sword-flame-rides-again.html

Hope you enjoy this classic old set of rules that has stood the test of time!

"The U.S. Army's mission is to fight and win the nation's wars,
and its vision is to be a global force that fights at the scale required."

Sir, I respectfully suggest 1/56 & 1/100 as the best scales in which to fight...!

Thanks for sharing the full report, the battle was quite lively. The Sword & the Flame rules look like they do a good job representing the difficulty in getting orders followed precisely as you want them to be under fire. Your miniatures and board are nice too.

Played many a TSATF game back in the day (mostly Boer War).
Good to see the rules still soldiering on.
Like your FFL and Arabs.

Wonderful "Old School" gaming  :D

TSATF still stands up as a great set of rules.

Great looking game with TSATF. Here is mine using "The Sword in North Africa" a variant of TSATF.

In 2-4 player games, I love having a serious wound/light wound addition.   Hearts =Dead, Diamonds=Serious Wound, Spades =light wound (put a piece of red yarn on figure, he's now -1 shooting n melee) Clubs=wounded now killed OR light wound

Melee:  lose on a 1=KIA,  on a 2=SW or LW (50-50 roll) 3= runaway, etc.

I also do a artillery option to do physical damage to walls and buildings (breach!  Not just hitting targeted  figures)

1 more addition:  American units shoot and melee at +1 because....I'm American.    :P

Reigning USTA Florida, and National 50+ Singles Champion  (tennis)  TWO Time Florida 50+ Singles Champion!  Just won State 2019!
