As soon as I saw those wolves I knew it.

I encountered the game in the early 90s, long after its release (actually googling tells me it was on the covertape of Crash magazine in September 1991). It was still stunning for a ZX Spectrum game even then. Sort of like the scope of Elite but in a fantasy setting. Considering the limited hardware it was working on, it was a real marvel of programing.
Sadly I was too young to really understand enough to play it properly, even though I loved seeing the armies moving around. So although I had a limited experience with it, the visuals were burnt into my brain.

I was thinking about it recently as I got a "The Spectrum" at Christmas, and it can be played on that. Plus recently there's a guy doing a similar project with papersoldiers which is pretty cool

EDIT- that may be the same project Dubbya refers to?

Alot of setting of this game comes from Lord Of The Rings which will hopefully make life easier for me with finding figures. A huge amount of old Warhammer figures fit nicely into the game. Ice Warriors for example are a spitting image of Chaos Knights especially on horse back.
I just hope somebody makes the 3rd game one day,"Eye of the Moon" which was intended to be 12 kingdoms the size of Midnight so a possible 384,000 plus screen views.

Wow, two people working on wargaming the setting, what a time to be alive!

(The 6mm warbands look great, I'm so glad you are sticking to the game colours)

Small update on a few characters. Remember I am mixing characters from the first and second game and including some additional information from the books.
Rorthorn the Wise is an ancient wizard fighting for the forces of good and is a Drak Sword miniature that has been kit bashed with a hood and different staff.
Morkin the Free is the young son of Luxor and also fights for the forces of good. He is a Ral Partha ranger figure.
Coroleth of the Fey fights for the forces of good and is a kit bashed Victrix figure. He is at home in the forest.
Varatrarg the Barbarian(neutral force) is from the Fantasy warrior range and as per the books cannot be trusted.
Lord Brith is good, but weak and is a LOTR figure, cannot for the love remember which character it is in LOTR ?
Finally Glormane the Dwarf(neutral force) hates Giants and bares grudges. Another LOTR figure thats fits in well.

The last two minis are the GW Lord of the Rings figures for Faramir and one of the dwarf lords (Dain?).

The miniatures are great but I am in love with the background and the scenery!
So dreamy and fantastical, you don't seem to see enough of those in fantasy wargaming.

That will be the 1980s acid house colour pallette. Standard on ZX Spectrum games lol
