Oh boy, I must be mad - my own solo system
« on: June 22, 2025, 10:47:02 AM »
Okay, I appreciate most of the people on here probably aren’t all that interested in solo gaming, and I mean properly solo skirmish level campaign play, but just in case - https://horrendousgaming.blogspot.com/p/horrendous-gamings-solo-tabletop.html

Many will hate it, there’s simple combat mechanics, no lovingly detailed lists of troops and weapons, single die roll takes into account hitting, penetrating and wounding.

If none of that appeals, please ignore the link, but if it does and you are into one of the first three genres I am going for (or have a favourite you’d like me to tackle later) drop me a line.

I’m looking for playtesters, photos of appropriate figures and terrain for the books, and general feedback.

This is very much a passion project, not a commercial venture.

Cheers, Dean

Solo skirmish narrative is 80% of my gaming. I'd be pleased to do some playtesting for you.

Will send my email address in Private Messages.

I think if you want a system that provides quick combats and lets the game flow - then more strength to you.

One comment from reading through the blog page - if bad things happen on a 1 (on a d10) and really good things on a 10. Then these will be happening quite a lot. I would keep an eye on how this plays out, as otherwise you might find far too many times characters are getting into trouble over rolling a 1. But if it can lead to good narrative, then that is fine, it just feels it may be rather too frequent.

Thanks Fred, that is definitely a concern and something I'll be watching for in the playtesting is the balance between a fast and furious battle and it all being over too quickly.

I would be interested in reading and giving general feedback if I spot anything that needs to be adressed, but probably won't be able to do actual playtesting currently. So up to you if that seems at all helpful. :)

Dropped you a PM, thanks!  I just want to get eyes on it for now and see whether anyone other than me thinks the concept makes any sense.
