The Battle of Plymouth, 28th August 1652- General at Sea.
« on: 11 July 2025, 08:38:15 PM »
In August 1652 a certain Michiel de Ruyter burst on to the stage of 17th century naval warfare at the Battle of Plymouth, as he successfully defended a Dutch Atlantic-bound convoy through the English Channel from a larger more powerful English fleet under Admiral Sir George Ayscue.

In a restaging of this remarkable sea fight using General at Sea rules, a friend of mine sent me his solo replay AAR which illustrated well what a talented commander de Ruyter was in fending off Ayscue in the way he managed.

Often it is better to remain silent and let people think you are stupid than to open your mouth and remove all possible doubt.
