I am intrigued by war games that use a grid, Games that are self contained and complete. Recently I have been having a look at Travel Battle by the Perry`s and decided to craft a home made version, only bigger. Since I play my games at home portability is not an issue. However, I still wanted the game to fit on the kitchen table, so I decided to limit the two boards to 24 inches square each. I used 7mm mdf to make the boards and hills and re purposed my buildings and woods from DBN. I am using 12 by 12 square grid rather then the original 1o by 10 and the squares are 2 " wide. Thes boards will also work for DBN so win win. I did not stick down the hills but in all other respects I tried to copy the Perry`s layout as closely as possible. My Warlord epic scale figures on 40mm wide bases fit perfectly and it takes no time at all to paint up an army. It is also cheap, a few sprues and your good to go. I am also considering trying DBN with the grid! I am very pleased with the result and it`s a perfect small project if you enjoy the make and do aspect of the hobby. here are a few photos.
