Docks by Dalanshin
« on: 28 April 2010, 07:18:31 PM »
Greetings,

I thought the Swashbucklin' place would be a good home for this project:

I have been chipping away at this one for a few months now, it is 99% done.  I just realized that it still requires ladders and stairs (which will also be modular).

You can find more info and some wip pics at me blog:

Questions and comments are welcome!

I intend to use this for a few different game systems and settings whenever I meet up with the fellow it now belongs to, and will post up some in game pics here later when the dice begin to roll :)

Very nice. I especially like the sewer/drainage grates visible in the pics on your blog. Great attention to detail.

Thanks Joe,  your comment prompted me to add a couple pics to show the sewer drains here:

Nice! Are those sections of flagstone removeable? Maybe for filling the sewers with Skaven?  >:D

A question for our German friends...I'm trying to get my head around the meaning of Bögenhafen.  I know that hafen is port or harbour and apparently bögen means arches.  Any suggestions? The original context concerned a town on the River Bögen, which sounds strange in itself, as a name, anyways.

Nice to see you posting here as well. Those docks are great!

@archangel1: "Bögen" is the plural of "Bogen", which indeed is "arch" ("Arsch" btw is German for "ass" but that is irrelevant in this context). Assuming that there is some meaning in the name (which I doubt - if you look at some of the GW names of their characters, pre WD 100 era, you will find that they used arbritary German words which end up in horrible configurations if you understand the words), then the name, for the river, could imply that it is turning and twisting instead of a straight line - if you understand what I mean... ::) For a city itself it could imply that the city is a seaport and the buildings have a lot of arches, so the name would be a reference to the city architecture.

 lol
Awesome, I picked the town Bogenhafen because I thought it had a very funny ring to it, and it has been in the Warhammer lore for such a long time.

There are four removable panels on the flagstone quay, which reveal basements, and doorways leading to the sewers.  I will be making a few modular wall pieces to create sections in the basement for things like storage, a tavern or prison cells.  Those should be done failry soon, and I'll post pics of it when they are.

The other items on the build list are some stairways, gangways and ladders for the piers.

"Three cheers for Bogenhafen and Karl Franz!"
