Native water-bearers
« on: 06 June 2010, 09:51:29 PM »
Quote
The uniform 'e wore
Was nothin' much before,
An' rather less than 'arf o' that be'ind,
For a piece o' twisty rag
An' a goatskin water-bag
Was all the field-equipment 'e could find.
When the sweatin' troop-train lay
In a sidin' through the day,
Where the 'eat would make your bloomin' eyebrows crawl,
We shouted "Harry By!"
Till our throats were bricky-dry,
Then we wopped 'im 'cause 'e couldn't serve us all.
      It was "Din! Din! Din!
You 'eathen, where the mischief 'ave you been?
You put some juldee in it
Or I'll marrow you this minute
If you don't fill up my helmet, Gunga Din!"

Anyone know if/where I can get one (28mm)?
I told you so. You damned fools.

There is a new set of porters in the Reaper Chronoscope range.  One of the bearers is in a robe like tunic and carrying a wooden barrel on his back.  That one might do the trick.

One of the Chaos in Cairo 'civilians' sets includes a figure with a waterskin on a strap over his shoulder.  Although he has on more clothes than 'Din" he would make a good Mohammedan Bhistie.  (iirc he wears a fez).

I'll see if I can find a link for you.

Edit:  Here he is, 2nd from right.

Foundry have a couple of great ones - but I can't seem to find them on their site.

I'm fairly certain they were from their Indian Mutiny range.

If I can I'll try and take a couple of photos of the 2 I have.

I got the Gunga Din set from Scale Creep. A really nice waterboy figure plus three British officers. They are closer to 25mm though.

This one looks rather good. I might go for the castawy one, too.
