Some more Heavy Gear Starter model images
« on: 09 October 2010, 03:43:50 PM »
I added a few more images to the review earlier, as I toned down the Quick Shade gloss with some matte brush on varnish, and added some of the basing materials I like to use. I'm not done with basing them yet, but I've been asked to share more images here, so here's a few of the newest pics...

I'm also getting used to a new digital camera, so bare with me over the next few weeks as I learn how to get the most out of this one. Some images aren't as good as some of the earlier ones at my site, but I'm doing what I can with what I got.

It's too bad they didn't still offer the same model I had that broke. I was forced to pick something new, since they gave me a gift card for the same amount the original camera cost via the warranty. The good thing is, Target.com warranty isn't that bad, as they sent a gift card for the original amount in about 2 weeks time, but only because they no longer stocked the same make and model #.

Enjoy

Looking good for the dipped effect :). Especially like the blue ones.

Thank you sir. Yeah I have a really hard time not using the Quick Shade now that I have it. For instance, those blue models actually looked like crapola before the QS. The Quick Shade really does help turn average, or even a sub par paint job into something tabletop quality at the very least. I've even used it on stuff I felt looked tabletop already, and if used properly it will help bring out even more depth.

The QS works best If you brush it on, and control the amount applied too.

The models also have lots of little creases and lines to bring out, so that helps too. I can't wait to see more of the models, I'm looking forward to painting others now for sure.

Yeah I want to say the blue are the South, and the Green are the North off the top of my head.

Like I said before, QS does wonders in the way of shading, as the paint jobs prior to the QS we're sorta bland, and I just wasn't happy with them at all. I did everything I could to not use the QS, but in the end I wanted to post the review and get the project done, and I was down to finishing the models to post it, so I used the QS to seal the deal if you will.

I'm happy with them now, but before the blue ones really looked like crap. I couldn't decide what colors to paint them, and since they're my first Gears, I was so torn on how to proceed with them. You know, I can paint stuff like Freebooter's Fate models, and most other Sci-fi models without thinking twice about it, but these challenged me, because I really wanted to paint them nice, and with that being the case, mentally I tried too hard, so I ended up fizzling myself out in the process.

Being as small as they are was a little bit of a challenge too, as they resemble a 28mm man-size model, but a bit smaller, and there's some smaller bits and details to pick out, which I kept slopping up. Live and learn tho, these are my first Gears, and now that I've painted some up, I have a better understanding  of how to tackle them in the future.

I think you mixed up the models then... I thought that you had the north paint scheme on the blue ones, but I'm fairly sure those are southern gears... I might be wrong, but you should double check.

They look great either way though!

Thank you sir. You're right I had them mixed up.  I fixed it in the post above. I'm a Heavy Gear NOOB in training. lol My North are GREEN, but the South are blue. I didn't stick with the color schemes they suggested in the book, as I always dare to be different when ever I can.
