help building security shutters

hi
i'm building some modern stores  in 28mm scale,and i'd like suggestions for what could be used to represent modern security shutters, the roll down kind that seem to be everywhere these days.

Corrugated iron style plasticard? You can get nice sized sheets, cut to size, slip between some H-beams - bam! I'm thinking Plastruct is the name of the company that the FLGS stocks, but I might be wrong...

Plastruct is usually outrageously expensive. But for that "corrugated" effect, you could use some of the corrugated cardboard (with one covering layer only) sold by various crafts stores (I think I've seen it at Hobbycraft). Usually between 1 and 2 pounds for a 50x70cm sheet.

Combine that with the H- or U-Beams (great idea, that!) and it should work out nicely. Additionally, you can easily add damage to make it representative of a desolate urban warzone such as Beirut, Grozny, Beverley Road in Kingston-upon-Hull...

I've used corrugated aluminium, corrugated card and also aluminium mesh for mine. First and last available in hobby stores, AMRI make the stuff in various scales and gauges up to 1:50. Corrugated cardboard bought at a stationers for next to nix. The stuff that used to line the old Cadbury assorted chocolate boxes was a good source for this.

Like the cretin in the film said- "Life is like a box of chocolates and it often comes with useful scenic items".

To the above materials/method I'd add woven bamboo place mats cut to size.

Tesco also sell packs of corrugated card, its pink but hey your going to paint it, right?

The advantage of the corrugated aluminium is that it is corrugated on both sides, whereas most corrugated cardboard is backed with a flat surface. You can peel that off, if you are patient but it's a pain.

I tend to use the cheaper cardboard for roofing and areas where the back won't be visible, like slum shacks and the aluminium versionfor items like CGI fences and loose sheets. If you are careful it is possible to bend and even roll the aluminium version. Of course as many security shutters of the roll variety have the roller mechanism inside the structure it's probably not an issue for you, unless you are looking to portray the classic 1970s dwelling of the northern suburbs of Melbourne. In which case you will need scale concrete lions, acres of concrete paving or optionally model a vegetable patch in the front garden.

Yea my wife found it in the kids glueing and sticking section. I think its ment for kids (like a 6 year old is going to understand its for making roofs from not sprinkling glitter over  ). I would imagine any other big Tesco store would stock it (probably not the little ones) as they all have basically the same stock. Top find by the missus it is only corrugated on one side but is still great for roofs and fence panels.
