Can I get away with this ? (15mm SF vehicle)
« on: 24 February 2011, 02:57:51 PM »
I wanted somthing less ordinary as camouflage for my vehicles, so I thought I'd go for Berlin Camo.
I've just started on 1 recce skimmer and I'm really interested in some opinions before I continue.

Personally I find the entire vehicle in the camo to be a bit much, though I like the camo scheme itself. I think if you give it a wash to bring out the details, along with doing some weathering and maybe pick out some parts in silver or something it should look quite nice.

Yay ! a comment.

I too find this a very interesting (urban) cammo scheme but wasn't convinced when I put it on the mini. (in reality the blocks are smaller and plentyful)
I was thinking of lining it with a pen, but I'm afraid that will be to harsh (black lines on white panels...)
so a wash would indeed be better.
while it looked ok to the eye, the macro displayed rather a lot of white spots, so I'd probably have to go over it again to fill every block.  :?

Okay, I'll take the challenge. The pattern is nice but the paint job seems incomplete to me, if a little rough. Maybe your paint is too thick. It needs an ink wash to bring out the shadows. And items that would not normally be painted camouflage need to be painted in as such ( the barrel end, vision scopes, sensors). Maybe weather the bottom.

Finish this and resubmit for comments...it's hard to tell how a paint job will turn out until it is complete. Photos from a bit further back and in focus would help also.

Hope this is taken the right way.
Cheers

I agree - some highlighting (just on the extreme edges) and a wash would do wonders. But I take my hat off to you - I'm terrified of painting camo! I don't think I ever will!

I intend to base it not so high, it's a gravtank, not a plane, so the bottom would be mostly obscured.
and yes, it is taken the right way. that's the whole point of asking advise isn't it  :D

Being 15mm I think the photos are too close to really get an idea of what we are seeing.

Having said that, I do agree that most likely a wash could make a big difference as could simply adding some black around some of the camo.

As I said though it's too hard to tell, cause the photo is just to close for such a small mini.

I've got a bunch of GZG vehicles, and they are super, but not the easiest to paint because they are all very blocky.

If you do decide to do more work on it, please post more pics. I'd love to see the finished work!
