My Bandidos for LotOW
« on: 29 July 2011, 11:44:43 PM »
Local league is running some LotOW, so I finished some Bandidos to join in.

Julio Iguana   :D

I have plans for converting a couple extra of the Black Scorpion bandits into Vaqueros. But considering most of the cash I made in the first game went to replacing the dead, I probably have plenty of time to work on them.

More pictures and their first battle report is here: http://laughingferret.blogspot.com/2011/07/bandidos.html

Very nicely done! Looking forward to more battle reports starring this gang.

Any tips about how you achieved their excellent dark skin tones?

Great bandidos! The iguana on the shoulder of the guy with the bottle in his hand is brilliant, and there's a great contrast between the earthy/creamy colours and the bright colours of the ponchos, etc. Nice stuff.

Thanks everyone  :D These were a 'speed paint' project, but I did slow down a bit to give Julio Iguana some extra attention.  This mini by Reaper was the majority of the motivation behind picking bandidos actually.

Very nicely done! Looking forward to more battle reports starring this gang.

Thanks, I'll try to do a write up after each battle.  Next one is Wednesday.

For the skin tone I started with a mix of valeijo dark flesh mixed with reaper master series tanned flesh shadow (the darkest in the triad) , then mixed some tanned flesh into that for highlights, wash with wash made from dark flesh.  I make a lot of my own washes. spot-wash for recesses, like between fingers, shadow areas on face, etc with the dark flesh wash mixed w a touch of devlan mud.

A nice band!

And you "speed painted" them?

They're great man, you're very talented.

Thanks for sharing.
I know you're too old to play with toy soldiers. So give them to me... NOW!

Nice!  ;D

you have a mix of Foundry and Black Scorpion. They seem to go well together in size?

Foundry is noticeably smaller unfortunately. These seem a bit smaller even than most of their minis... I suppose peons would be underfed & short though. But still, it was too much of a difference for me- even with the integrated base giving it some height.  So I added some thick card-stock to elevate the foundry ones even more, then puttied a slope to hide it as much as possible. Once the minis are together and on the table it's not really noticeable. They still look a bit smaller, but it's ok, since they're peons. I wouldn't want to mix foundry Mexican bandits and try to call them Toughs or Heroes equal to the Black Scorpion minis, but I'm happy with the effect for peons.
