I haven't played much WWII. only got into it this year :)

We have been playing Crossfire by Arty Conliffe. Crossfire has a unique system.
No measuring ranges or movement, no set turns. Players keep moving their units until they lose the initiative, which is usually caused by reactive fire from the defender or failing to suppress an enemy unit with direct fire.

Crossfire is a company size game. smallest unit is a squad with three squads and a Platoon commander making a platoon.

The game is remarkably simple. You have picked up 80% of the rules after your first game. However there is a lot of subtlety in these rules.

The game is heavily focused on infantry. Don't expect massive tank battles. The most you will have is 3-6 tanks per side and that's only if you are playing a battalion size game.
As with all rules, they are not perfect but with just a few minor tweaks we are really very happy with these rules. The rules are also cheap (which is a bonus!)

There is a crossfire yahoo group too which offers lots of help and advice.

Cheers
Fuzzy.

Crikey, sir. I'm looking forward to today. Up diddly up, down diddly
down, whoops, poop, twiddly dee - decent scrap with the fiendish Red
Baron - bit of a jolly old crash landing behind enemy lines - capture,
torture, escape, and then back home in time for tea and medals.

For man-on-man squad encounters, NUTS is the best.  For company actions, I enjoy using Too Fat Lardies' I Aint Been Shot Mum and their platoon-level Troops Weapons & Tactics.  I still play the pre-ASL Squad Leader as well.
