Does anyone know if the articles available free online? JSTOR and CUP prices are totally insane!

I just did a search for Portuguese Africa and really did not find much of anything.  However, there was an article on the significance of Guns in 19th/20th C Central Africa that could be interesting.  Articles are available for $30 or 12 Euros, expensive.
Your best bet is to find a University research library and copy the articles there.

There were a few (classic) articles put up for free in a while back, otherwise you could try through a university library.

As a subscriber and regular reader for my day-time job I am intrigued as to what you have identified as interesting in terms of wargaming.

Yes, I saw that one. There are other useful articles about Portuguese Africa but it really depends on what you're looking for. I'm researching some historical background and although not militaty studies I found a few good articles about the early conquests (16th - 17th C.), the pre-Scramble 19th C. period and later wars. If you search Portuguese, Chikunda, Zambezi, Ngoni, Makolo, Angola, Cuamatos, etc you'll find interesting stuff.
