Crimean War gameability
« on: 06 September 2012, 12:05:46 AM »
Face it, we sometimes choose a gaming genre much like we do a book; by its cover. I am on the fence about the Crimean War as I know very little of it, and for some reason, it has piqued my interest. Perhaps it is the photographs of Roger Fenton doing it to me? I individually like each the armies involved, and am wanting to learn more of the era as a whole.

Can anyone provide me their view on its gameability, and if I should "leave it well enough alone", or "start purchasing"?

David

fitterpete,
I know that you can put figures from any era on a table and game at least one scenario. I am seeking out if there is flexibility in historicaly precendented scenarios that offer more than just "the charge of the Light Brigade". The follow on era such as the ACW offers an inordinately large variety of precendented scenarios, but I am wanting something different. Something worth my investment of time and money. It just seems that certain eras like ACW are everywhere, and I would only be adding more lead to the enormous pool of painted minis that can be brought into any typical FLGS.

Pretty uniforms and some notable characters. Bear in mind that the British rifle-muskets outrange the Russian muskets by about 200% and the British will therefore win every engagement very quickly and brutally and the Russians do not really have a chance to win anything and will always get massacred.

How badly do you want to paint those pretty uniforms?

huevans,
Thanks for the reply. Yours is the kind of opinion I am after. While I rather enjoy painting, I would hate to paint up a force that I quickly grew tired of on the game table. Everyone wants a return on their investment!
