Crimean Range
« on: June 23, 2010, 06:53:03 PM »
Great War Miniatures have just announced a Crimean Range according to this month's WI.  Infantry first, then Cavalry and, finally, guns.

It was announced months and months ago. What's happening now is that you can actually buy the figures (just when everyone had just about forgotten they were even coming).  :)

I hadn't seen it before, it was in the news page of today's mag.  Perhaps they're reminding people who may have moved on to a different range/period while they were bored waiting.  This "telling you what we are making and then, maybe, releasing in a few months/years/never syndrome" seems very prevalent at the moment.

Yes, it's annoying when the gap is so long you fall asleep waiting.

I had actually forgotten about them until my nephew started nagging me the other day with "what happened to that 28mm Crimean range that was supposed to be coming out?" (he's very into 19th Century horse & musket at the minute), and I didn't know. So we went on the North Star site and like magic, there they were sitting there, which was pretty cool. Like when you go to the loo in a restaurant and when you come back your food has come.

Or something.

How do they compare to Foundry?
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it anymore and what is it seems weird and scary.

Dave Andrews says they are bigger than Foundry.

Dave Andrews says they are bigger than Foundry.

but the Foundry range is on the small size (height wise not selection)

This range was one of the worst kept secrets in wargaming last year and did seem rather exciting. I was ready to be all over it. After what seemed an eternity they finally arrived and apart from some Russians painted by Mr Imrie I have been a lttle underwhelmed with what I have seen. Lots of other shiny new things came out to distract me too. Sometimes there is definately too much or too previous hype, obviously something very difficult to guage correctly.

Does this mean that 'Great War Miniatures' will have to change their name? Or does it now refer to the quality of their 'War Miniatures'...

These do look very cool. Shame I have no money. :'(
