I would say that your interpretation is as good as any other. Perhaps not true to the illustration, but it does do a good job of conveying a sightless cave-dwelling menace.

Good call Hooded Claw. I can see how you got the worm idea from the Flash Gordon wiki. That was part of a strip Raymond published on March 10, 1935, the next panel shows the whole dragon. Sue me. In any event you have a great monster dampfpanzerwagen, you should have a great time with it.

Tony, your Flash Gordon stuff is, as always, top notch.  I check your blog out from time to time and marvel at the ingenuity you display in finding things here and there to use.  I keep thinking you will run out of ideas, but you continue to impress.

I would say the old Marauder carrion models with a little fleshing out to cover the visible bone would make fine harpy bats.  Seems like there was on on ebay recently, I just found the link from Wallycerous' auction:

You know, I would really like the Flash Gordon Wiki IF, and ONLY IF I could filter out any mention or reference the the Sci Fi Channel's abominationdaptation.  Then again, why not expect that sort of thing from the channel which has professional wrestling ( or used to at one point) as a weekly thing.  Oh look, we've opened up that can of worms again!  Apologies for the small-scale rant.

Lots of luck on harpy bats,I'm tempted to get the reissue of the Aurora Count Dracula monster model just for the bats, but that wouldn't really work. For Tsak, I think there is a 4 headed Japanese monster available. A double amputation and a lot of green stuff might work. Then again, I wanted to do the Gocko from the serial and I thought the Japanese monster models would help but no dice.

If you want harpy bats that look like the ones in the picture below (which I found at your link), Kallistra has some flyers among their 10mm Orcs that kind of look the part, but the riders would have to be removed. The tails aren't the same and they don't seem to have beaks either, but still.

I took your advice and bought three Orc Riders from Kallistra.  A little bit of re-modelling (check out the beaks) and a couple of minites painting, I now have my Harpy Bats.

Cool! That made my day, I should be thanking you! Now I feel tempted to get a colony* of them myself.

Also, the blog entry below that just reminded me that the deadline for the jetbike contest is gone. I never even got started. Doh!
