Yesterday, the last French Poilu, Lazare Ponticelli passed way peacefully at the age of 110. He enlisted at the age of 16 (lying about his age) and joined the Foreign Legion.

After having refused any distinction for many years (including the Legion of Honnor), he agreed to have a national funeral 'because he was the last one and for all who fell on the battlefields of France'.

Amazing and a real loss for the French. Poilu is such a lovable fellow, and now he's no more.
