HYW Burgundian Crossbows (fast paints)
« on: 02 December 2012, 05:22:12 PM »
Hi
These are first HYW figures that I've added to my existing collection. They are for a planned Cravant demo game, for the Lance and Longbow Society, at next years Salute.
To get the extra figures I need done, I've copied my wash-and-highlights approach that I recently did on some Perry Italians.

This painting style lacks the close-up details that I normally try and put into my figures, but it sure is a whole load quicker - about 600% (normally I'd do about 3 or 4 figures in a week).
There are more close-ups pics on my harnesss and Array blog, if anyone's interested.

I'll post some more of the figures and other items for the Cravant game, in the next few months.
Cheers
Simon.

Well, from that distance, nobody's really going to tell...

I do far prefer your slow-cooked artworks though Simon... ;)

If you don't mind me asking a couple questions regarding this battle.

Would the Burgundians wear the red X yet, or did that not occur until later 15thC?  Do you have any good sources for Burgundians in the 100YW?

What about the Scot's at this battle, it looks like they had some archers there but what about the bulk of the troops?  I get the impression that the Scot's wouldn't be pike armed but similar to the French Dismounted Men-at-arms.  Any sources on the Scottish forces on the continent during the 100YW?

Thanks for your help, and good luck with your painting.

Look pretty good to me....I've always been torn between faster paint jobs (so I might actually have a playable force) and better paint jobs (that take me so long I end up losing interest in the project) to be honest your quick paint jobs look better than my good paint jobs anyway lol

I never seem to get the whole wash technique to work for me, they either look too washed or no different. These look good, especially for 'fast paints'. Again I also prefer your slow jobs but these are still excellent.
