sad to hear this, it happens to all of us, i'm afraid =)

that's why i use a brush to apply the protective. It's a acrylic one, and takes quite a lot to apply to large models, but no white specks! =)

I've had this happen (luckily on a test model).
I fixed it by hitting it with a good coat of gloss, followed by another coat of dull (maybe another can though).

Hope this helps.

Yeah I tried the second coat of Gloss and I was able to scrape some of them off but they are not to bad not as bad as when the whole thing gets frosty.

Doesn't look to bad on the pics.
Nice sculpts, particularly the man-at-arms.

I always warm the can of Dullcote or Army Painter Matt for 5-10 minutes in a basin of warm water, then shake it vigorously for a couple more before spraying.

If there's a hint of rain or humidity though, I leave the spraying for another day.

That combination of tactics has reduced my incidence of White Speck significantly (not completely though).

I hate dullcoat errors.  Not happened often to me, but very upsetting when they do.

Condolences!

Odd, I spray in pretty much any weather - it rains an awful lot in my part of the world, if I didn't spray when there was "even a hint of rain or humidity" I'd have about two spraying days a month, and some months none at all - and I've never gotten bloom or flecks or greyish frosting.

This is with bog-standard Testor's Dullcote, the expensive little spraycans. I shake well before using, but not especially long, and everything is pretty much at room temp when I do it - miniatures, dullcoat, whatever.

Have I just gotten lucky?

I've given up on sprays for figures and switched to brush on. The only thing I wil risk it on now are buildings and vehicles that wouldn't look too bad if they look a bit dusty.

I once finished an entire squad and went to spray on the dull coat...  After I started spraying I was quite frustrated to realize I picked up the white primer instead..  :'(

Try rubbing the white area with olive oil. I know it sounds weird, I thought that when I saw the idea on another forum but it worked on my figures. Perhaps any Chemists out there can explain it ???

No idea - I've certainly sprayed with snow on the ground and in sub-zero conditions (Centigrade, not Fahrenheit, but these are also low-humidity conditions) with no problems.

Gloss varnish has none of these problems, and some brands of varnish also seem immune to it.

Maybe it's the warming and shaking that makes sure the matting component (talc?) is well mixed in the can, and all this stuff about humidity is just some nonsense I've picked up on the internet.  Wouldn't be the first time :D

If it is a problem due to humidity, I've never worked out whether it's relative humidity (i.e. the % relative to saturation point, which is temperature-dependent) or absolute humidity (i.e. the partial pressure of water vapour in the air).  If it's the latter, even 100% relative humidity represents very little actual water vapour at low temperatures.  Conversely, at high temperatures low RH% can de describing quite a high water vapour content.

Or I'm actually performing some kind of magical ritual of defrosting.  Take your pick :)
