After starting a blog a few months ago, I finally posted to it. Of course it's about everyone's favorite mining town, Helsreach.

Take a look:

Nice! Tell me more about the Command variant of the Rhino. How did you make it?

Thanks! It's just a standard Rhino with a scratch built commo shelter. The structure is plasticard. The detail pieces were taken from various 1/35 scale tank kits. The camo net bundle is made from toilet paper rolled and set with diluted white glue with electrical tape for the straps. I made it in '98 or '99.

Lovely, gritty looking rhinos. The command vehicle especially so!

So "gritty" is new way of saying poorly painted in haste?  lol

They're pretty unadorned. I originally painted them to go with a force of the old metal Cadians I painted up for use with the game StarGrunt. Thus the muted, gray paint scheme. I recall being under the gun to get them painted as I had a big game to prep for in a short time. The Cadians are really dreadful.

High praise, indeed, sir. Thanks much. I don;t think I'll worry about the slavers, although one of their walkers would be cool indeed. As you can see from my latest blog post, I have picked up some beakies on the cheap. Just gotta be patient and not give into the impulse of over bidding.

Old skool 40K chaos? Not in the cards. But I do have four of the old fellas doing nothing otherwise ...

I ask you, What is your favorite part of Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader.

Answer here, answer there. Answer both places if you insist.

Indeed. I used to have a stupendous collection of White Dwarf magazines from 108 to well into the 200s. I wish i had held onto them. Especially 109-129.

To be fair, I asked what did you like about the original book.   :D

A further discussion of follow-on publicatiosn is in order, surely. But that's another blog post.

Yes, Scurv is totally right on that. Though you can see much better art or minis nowadays, RT still has a distinctive flavour. It reunited all the fantasy/sci-fi from that era and turned it all into a whole product. Maybe it's just nostalgia, but I still love the game (being aware that it has many pros and cons).
The original book was a window to another world, with its own surrounding atmosphere, it had all you needed to boost your imagination. I think that was the key to success, not being 'just another sci-fi project', but taking fantasy into space. You had so much less boundaries and that allowed you to do almost anything you could imagine, wich was just great!
