I recommend "The Master Plan' by Heather Pringle which covers the same ground and is far more readable.  The book contains photos of some of the protagonists and of the relics they collected from around the world.  Fascinating stuff.
I lived in Detmold for a while, just down the road from the Externstein and a short drive from Wewelsberg Castle..................and spent time in Berlin too, where the Ahnenerbe office was located in Dahlem (then in the American sector)

Given the other titles Osprey is planning for this line, I thought I'd share this quote:
