Alternate uses for 1st Corp SST
« on: 20 June 2013, 05:14:53 PM »
Climbing thru my unpainted lead pile this morning I found a bunch of 1st Corps' excellent not-SST troopers and recon grunts. I love Robbie Baker's sculpting and these are just fantastic minis and dying to be painted. Trouble is, they're 25mm and smaller than most sci-fi lines out there. Aside from the bugs that 1st Corp makes, can anyone suggest adversaries closer to this size? I plan to use them for my own background and not for the Starship Trooper universe.

I was also looking at the 28mm Polecat from Khurasan and I was thinking due to the size of the door hatch in comparison to the figures shown on the site, this may make a good vehicle for these chaps.

Any other ideas? Seems a shame not to put paint to these beauties.

Like dijit said, the Ventauran Space Troopers from Deninzen are a great choice as an enemy for your SST. They are roughly the same size but more proportioned than the 1st Corps guys (who are a bit big-headed, IMHO). I'm trying to sell my SSTs but I'll keep the Ventaurans (I'll use them as small aliens, hehe)

Can't talk about the GZG guys because I only have their 15mm range :\

You could always pit them against any alien faction, who can tell how aliens size up against humans.

All good suggestions guys, thanks. I forgot all about the Denizen minis. Those are pretty great.

Maybe going with bugs as well is a good choice after all.  I just saw the Defiance ones and they look pretty cool. Of course, the odd pack of Mongoose SST bugs show up on eBay regularly.

Thanks lads!

I have the NAC, Mercenaries and PAU from GZG, and the later two are especially nice minis. I have to confess to a soft spot for 25mmminis, but not really done much with them.

The West End Games Star Wars minis, and the Leading Edge Aliens are 25mm. Both will cost you a pretty penny in this day and age, but if your lead mountain is old enough you might find a few hiding in there.

Get a bunch of 25mm cowboys and US civil war Confederates and do the Unification War from Firefly?

Last time I took a dozer to the lead mountain Michka I found a bunch. Probably the first miniature figures I ever bought. Sold them off though, and got a pretty penny for them.  :D

Maybe the Space Lords range would work.

They are smaller than todays standard but also maybe more realistic proportioned though.

Sold by Em4 now.

GZG had bugs in their range and I approached them but they very decently said how the moulds weren't too hot and they could cast them but they'd need quite a bit of work. However Eureka's mould of the same figures are fine and they carry them and they're smaller than the Mongoose SST bugs.

There's a comparison pic with a figure on the Eureka site, but it's not hotlinkable.
