Half a chaos team for Blood Bowl...
« on: 01 May 2013, 05:01:27 PM »
Haven't been terribly active with painting this year but did a quick job on a few chaos players I had primed and ready for painting. I've cleaned up and prepped the rest of the team. Now I just need to prime them too, and I'll quickly have a full team done.

These are the first seven of the Golden Horns of Bashálot. Far from my favourite sculpts, but as I actually play with them from time to time I figured I could do a simple scheme real fast like. I stumbled across Harry's team and decided to nab the colour scheme straight off. No fuss at all!

For what you call a simple scheme, they look quite nice!

Cheers guys! =) Primed the other players this morning while waiting for the dishwasher repair guys so I'll hopefully finish the team sometime soon. Once they're all done I'll do the numbers on the bases of the players too - shoulder pad numbering is purely cosmetic.

Any thoughts on the eyes, btw? I've left them black as I thought it looked good enough, but at the same time it's a bit lazy. Won't do regular eyes, nor do I want goats eyes on them. The options are black as is, black with a white speck (reflection) or red eyes.

Very good work, and like the inclusion of the old school CW!  My BM's eyes are red but that's just because I was copying GW - black is better.  Will you be doing a Minotaur?

Looking good - nice to see Wormhowl Greyscar as part of the team as well :)  They eyes look good just painted black.

I used a Chaos team in my league last year and they were great fun although I went for the rather daft option of fielding just beastmen and a minotaur.  They didn't do too bad although the beastmen were more fragile than I'd have liked - I kept my apothecary in reserve purely for the mino so the beastmen had to just suck up any injuries they suffered.

Yes, the 2nd edition two part chap.

Yeah, Wormhowl is one of my favourite BB minis actually. Was glad to include him.

It would take me two months to turn out something like this. I am very impressed with the way you do the aging on your metals. I'm very weak in this area and desperately need a good tutorial. Do you have one or do you know where I could find a good one for a beginner like myself?

A FINE start on a GREAT LOOKING Team! Your brushwork, particularly the metalwork, is OUTSTANDING! VERY WELL DONE!
I'd NEVER join a club that would have me as a member.  G.Marx

The metal is (by far) the easiest part.

I started with a black undercoat.

Overbrush Boltgun Metal (or well, the Vallejo equivalent). Overbrushing is similar to drybrushing, but there's a little more paint on the brush.

Drybrush Mithril Metal rather heavily.

Wash all of the metal parts with Devlan Mud or similar.

Wash recesses and chainmail with Badab Black. No need to be tidy about it.

Drybrush Boltgun Metal again, rather lightly.

Drybrush Mithril Metal again, lightly.

Touch up with thinned Devlan Mud here and there to get brownish stains.

If I want really rough metal, I do a layer of Tin Bitz before I do the first Boltgun round.

Here's an example where I did just that:
