Would these work for British India Company in IHMN?
« on: 30 July 2014, 02:49:47 AM »
I have a KR Multicase full of primed Old Ral Partha/Great Endeavours Naval Brigade, Infantry, cavalry (British Lancers and regular cavalry, Bengal Lancers, plus 33 Dismounted British Cavalry - Post 1897) , and artillery figures in my collection.  I am unsure exactly which ones I have because the painted images are a bit unclear when I compare them to my figures.  I think they are Zulu and 1st Boer Wars but they may be 91st Highlander in trews.

Which ones might be suitable for the IHMN British Indian Army Company?

Gracias,

Glenn

I love those figures...while on the smaller side they have so much character...would love to see them all done...Use what you like, they're VSF rules...Get some Bengals though and a few Ghurkas...

Absolutely go with what you like the look of. As long as they look coherent as a group, and have a back story then they will be great.

Here are the two style of Infantry figures from Ral Partha/Great Endeavours:

The figure has the shorter leggings/wrapping/puttees/whatever they are called.  The Helmet appears different with a thinner (Puggree?) around the sun helmet and the helmet appears to come down more in the front and back.  Would these be the Zulu/First Boer War figures?  http://www.greatendeavours.co.uk/colonials/rp_pack.php?pack=2

Or would they be these?  http://www.greatendeavours.co.uk/colonials/rp_pack.php?pack=22  Highlanders in trews.  Or possibly even these http://www.greatendeavours.co.uk/colonials/rp_pack.php?pack=86 German SeeBatallion advancing?

I have around one unit of these (with bugler/Command figures) that fills out to slightly less than 20 figures.

This figure has longer leggings/wrapping/puttees/whatever they are called.   The helmet appears to be covered with a "cover" and the helmet doesn't seem to be so far down in front or back.  At first I thought these were post 1897 infantry but the rifle looks held lower than http://www.greatendeavours.co.uk/colonials/rp_pack.php?pack=26

Most of my infantry units are these figures.

Comparison Pictures:

Should I have the Infantry in Red or Khaki?  I have 2nd hand painted Indian (Sikh?) Infantry (manufacturer TBD) painted in a khaki like color.

If I make some into Spanish Aether Marines for Venus I would paint them some nontypical colors - for Spanish Troops (Yellow over Red, Green, Grey) -  plus Red over Blue for more standard line troops...

Gracias,

Glenn

It looks like you have a mixture; some look they have Martini Henry rifles and the last few pics look more like bolt action Lee Metfords.

Guess I need to sort them by what details I can see.  I have very no British armies in my collection so I have spent nil time learning their uniforms (other than the basic "Red" changed to "Khaki" during the late 1800s.)

I'm not an expert on this period, but I would think the one with gaiters and uncovered helmet (LHS of most photos), would be a red coat.

The one with puttees would be in khaki.
