Source for 28mm deer?
« on: July 20, 2013, 03:30:55 PM »
Hi folks,

I am planning a diorama which will require several deer, in 28mm.  Ideally, these would be white-tailed deer that can be found widespread across north america, but generic deer would work as well.  I need does and fawns, no bucks/stags (though I imagine antlers could be removed as a last resort).  So far, I have found this one from foundry:

The sculpts just aren't the greatest, and there is lots of extra pieces I won't need, and thus will have to pay for extra stuff.  Any other manufacturers out there who make decent deer?

Did you look at O-scale models :

I looked at those scenery express deer earlier, and the detail looks rather bad on them.  Plus, the scale is not exact to 28mm, so I don't want them to be too big.  If I had a comparison shot, maybe that would be better?

As for megaminis, I can find no deer in their webstore.

There is a good buck in Ral Partha's North American animals. The ears would need to be trimmed down (they look like a mule deer) and the distinctive whitetail's tail would need to be made of greenstuff, but that is the closest I know of.

Megaminis may have sold the mold, they are preparing to close.

Foundry also have Red, Roe & Fallow deer in their woodland animals collection, and you can still get the Mega-Minis deer from ebay shop Hurlbat Games.

I suspect that the sculpts may be a little rough, but Irregular Miniatures also have a couple.

Interesting, the woodland animals do not appear when I click on the animals and baggage section in the menu, but your link works...

Though their standard per pack pricing works out to a gouging for just 3 animals.
