Japanese statues??

Hi guys,

I'm working on some scenery for Ronin. I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get some 28mm suitable statues (Buddha's, Dragons and what have you) thanks in advance!

Pet shop? Aquarium ornaments might have a few dragons etc- worth a look.

Hey General Lee,

Ainsty castings do a pair of Shishi temple dogs under their fantasy ligne (page2), Malifaux have a pack of Zen accessories with a small Shishi, bonsai tree, small Torri arch and a stone lantern and Oshiro Model Terrain have a grave set and wooden lanterns and sake/rice jars.

 Hope that's of some use?

Over here there are a couple of bead stores that carry contemporary, carved wooden Ojime. You can find a lot of good statue subject matter there and they are usually of a size compatible with 28mm scenery.

If you're going for something to look historically accurate, dragons and the bald, chubby Buddha’s aren’t really accurate for Japan (my wife is Japanese, so I’ve spent  a fair amount of time there).  Statues are generally found at Buddhist temples (not usually at Shinto shrines), are mainly of the Amitābha Buddha, Buddhist saints such as Kannon and Jizō, or Kongōrikishi guardians at Gates.

In gardens, you actually don’t see much in the way of statues, usually just  Tōrō lanterns and maybe an animal (deer, koi, cranes, etc.).  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T%C5%8Dr%C5%8D
You may also see arches near Shinto shrines, and the occasional pair of Shisa guardian dogs.
