Robot Molds From Hirst Arts
« on: August 27, 2013, 11:25:52 PM »
This is a cross post from the future wars forum, but not everyone checks both.  I think these are great looking robots that fit a fallout style post-apocalyptic setting pretty well.

I've been casting Hirst Arts molds for a while and I'll repeat the same caveats I gave in the other thread:
 - Your buying a silicone mold that you cast yourself, not finished parts.
 - Casting with the intended medium (dental plaster) has a moderate learning curve, so the robots will take a little more sweat equity than buying figures straight from a shop.
 - You can cast the parts in resin, but between mold release agent and the resin itself, the molds would start to break down after a while.

These look great and the mould would be an investment just for all of the differnt parts you could cast.
Below is a link to my blog. It's the place where I write uninteresting things about little toy soldiers. I do this because I refuse to grow up and behave like an adult.

Hmm, a little "cartoony"... but what am I talking about, I paint little metal men for fun ;)  It's a very clever concept and I see they've worked design miracles when it comes to using "one sided" castings here.

I could actually see these making a fun chess set, as long as you could remember what the pieces were supposed to be.

I'm a big fan of Hirst molds but can't get excited about this one :/

There is hope that the next molds  are modern floor tiles and accessories.

I love these, but just don't have the energy to mess around with casting.
This is my boomstick!

The individual bits aren't too bad, but it's got a very.. Disney feel to it all.
If you'd like an apocalyptic monster in 28mm, throw me a PM and I'll think it over.
