« on: 24 August 2013, 02:10:33 PM »
Hi all,

I am having great fun working on some Rogue Trader Imperial Guard at the moment.

Here is a few pics that they might delight and amuse:

Tactical Squad:

Command Squad:

Ogryns:

More stuff planned but it is WIP at the moment, I tend to post WIP in the blog.  I will post more of the completed work here as I go.

;o)

The Ogryns- did you use the HeroQuest and Battle Masters Ogres for the conversions?

Indeed you are correct ink the troll, I have used the big Battle Masters ogre and the smaller sized but similarly designed HeroQuest ogre.  I have a bunch of the HeroQuest ogres to get through yet to finish the squad.

Nice guard,  not keen on the ogryns but nicely executed.

Thanks Commander Vyper.  I am not 100% keen on the models either to be honest with their stunted legs but this is a fun way to use up those models which will never see the light of day otherwise.  They are also quick models to paint up which is nice.

Oh those Guard bring back find memories! Well done! Nice PJs! The newer edition weapons work well on them!

lovely, just not keen on the red guns, really hated the GW painting when they went through the red phase. Got a box of these kicking around to build up myself. Great to see the old school markings too  :-*

ps is the middle guy in the 2nd pic a zombie? he looks awfully grey in the face  ;)

Great work there!  8)

And great minds et all; I have a bunch of these guys lying around that I converted in exactly the samen way! The only thing that's different is my use of Catachan rifles instead of Cadian ones and cut down Space Marine flamers instead of Guard ones.

Mine never reached the painting stage though; excellent work on your guys therefore and don't forget to give these Necromundans some spider tattoos here and there... ;-)
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

I've got an entire RT IG force of the metal bodied guard mocked up with cadian plastic lasguns/arms and heavy weapons.  Painted about 15, posted on here years ago.

But with my digging out of my old skool RT minis I think I'm going with the original set up, hence the plastic lasgun request elsewhere.

But might consider a weapon swop again to separate poorly equipped Planetary Defence Force troopers from Full IG regiment forces.  We'll see.

Feel the 1989-ness :D

These are great.   The ogryns are a bit goofy (inevitable considering the models that they are based on) but the armour and helmet tie them in nicely with the troopers.  Nothing wrong with some entertainingly humorous looking guys in an army anyway, particularly BONEheads :)

Thanks the for the comments and feedback all!

Nice one for the "Guardsman of the 5th Arcadian Regiment" picture, I hadn't seen the full page version in years!  The iconography was always a little confused.  The guy in the picture if from hiveworld Arcadia - hence the Spiders gang tattoo.  He is not from Necromunda yet his uniform is pretty close in colour scheme.  I note in particular the helmet stripe colours are Green(assault), Yellow(command), Red(tactical) and Blue(support).  I have gone with Green(support), Yellow(command), Red(assault) and Blue(tactical) as it seemed more suitable this way IMO.

In terms of weapons I plan to mix and match with whatever I have available that I think works rather than sticking to only using the classic RT era ones.  My Necromunda is populated by a large number of crazy ass gang bangers who are happy to scavenge every gun they can for the "squad stash".  Each squad will be painted in a manner that differentiates it from every other squad in the force - variations in uniform are not uncommon even between squads.  This will hopefully afford me getting a sense of each squad being a mini-gang withing the greater gang of the platoon and so on up the command chain.  The uniforms are to be more codex at the bottom (Whiteshields with classic lasguns and no gang markings), less so in the middle (tactical squads with mixed equipment and veteran/gang kill markings), and neater again with senior command squads.

@ aliensurfer - I am well aware of the war crimes of the Red Era but that won't stop me from abusing it on these guns.  ;)  Actually the red did cause me to pause for thought for a while.  I think red is a great colour for wargames figures in general (redcoated Brittish infantry FTW) and usually try to get it on there somewhere.  It works best on these models when it is not too bright, based off the GW scab red paint works nice enough.  I like being able to eyeball a figure from across the table and easily tell what it is in a game and these guns will certainly allow that to happen.

Generally I would love to have a look at your converted or painted classic guardsmen if you can point me in the direction of images.

aye it does make them stand out, just I still have scars from the Red Era  ;)  I've only a few painted from back in the day, may even be my dad that painted them but I'll sort out some pics - the rest, like 30yrs of lead and plastic, sit untouched  ;D
