I've got the set.

The figs are very nice, but they've changed the bloody scale of the minis, they're all huge compared to the earlier stuff.

It's one of the most annoying things about the line, the inconsistancy in scale.

Apparently they have now addressed this fact and all the new figs will be heyooge compared to earlier minis, like the Japanese line troopers.

I think the set is good as an intro for new players, the paper scenery is a nice touch, but as has already been said numerous times, like most of the infinity stuff, it's way over priced :(

I can take a size comparison shot of the new stuff if anyone is interested, just say so.

That's not very nice. This year I've only bought Sun Tze (great sculpt but really expensive) and I thought he was so big just because he's a cyborg.

Changing scale would be a major pain, so any shots you have would be most welcome.

Does anyone know if they're planning to retire their current range, or will both still be produced. If they're being retired, I see a rash of figure buying in my near future

They've been updating some of their older sculpts for several months now. Usually they retire the old miniatures, but a few of them have been kept as they were too iconic, like the female Interventor.

My guess is that they'll only resculpt the ones which look outdated (like Zhanshi or Daofei), and of course every alien whose race has been redesigned.

What, really?  They've changed tbe scale?  Why?  They spent ages making everything smaller and more "realistic"! O_o

I would definitely appreciate any good scale pictures of models and weapons please. I've been a huge fan of this game for a long time, and I hope that 3E is not the edition that I give up on.  :?

Warning, incoming rant and nit picking over toy soldiers

To say they're a different scale is perhaps going to far, after all in the real world people come in all sorts of different shapes and sizes.

My personal opinion is that as a company Corvus Belli have been consistently inconsistent, primarily in the size of their miniatures, but also with clearing up doubts about rules and of late the fiasco with them closing, then not closing the official forums.

Don't get me wrong, I like their product and play their game, but considering the boutique price of their minis, I feel free to nit pick about these things as it bothers me to pay top dollar for a mini, and then find it's out of scale with the rest of the line.(IMHO lol)

Any way, here are the photos, judge for yourselves:

Here you can see a comparison of one of the new Nomad Alguaciles from the Operation Ices Storm starter (underlined in red) with the Nomad Alguacil hacker from the Corrigador starter box released in May 2013.
The two are the same troop type. Its possible that the hacker is just very petite, but whatever.

In this next pic you can see a range of infinity minis including some from the very first releases, which funny enough are closer in size to the new releases from the OI starter box. (again, underlined in red.)
So as you can see, the infinity line has gone from fairly standard 28mm heroic, then dabbled in what some call true 28mm, and now is leaning towards 32mm.
Of note is the comparison between the 2nd, 3rd and 4th from left.
2nd from left is a HaqIslam heavy infantry, whose regiment, according to the fluff, prefer to us older versions of the armoured suit which are more bulky and therefore more imposing. As you can see, next to 3rd from left, the new Nomad Reverend Healer, the 'heavy infantry' guy is tiny and not particularly imposing at all.
On the other side of the reverend healer. 4th from left is one of the Greek heroes from the Aleph faction. This guy was released in Nov 2013, next to the Rev. Healer he's already looking at lot less heroic.

Finally there's another shot of the afore mentioned heavy infantry guy, the healer, and an Engineer from YuJing.

I haven't posted any pics of the heavy infantry from the OI box, but they're massive.

Oh, and I wish Corvus belli would stop posing their minis with one foot on a rock/piece of broken machinery/someone's head. It's was a tired cliche back in the the days of yore, now it's just stupid

Excuse the double post

Sculpts are being retired regularly as the newer versions are released, there is little or no warning, sometimes they are immediately removed, sometimes there is a period of 30 days. There was a thread about it on the infinity forums. With the release of Operation Icestorm, various codes from the range have disappeared.

Thanks for the pictures. I can't understand why they do this.

It might be the pic but the hackers difference does'nt shock me. The one on the right looks like having high heels and less spread legs. I mean the faces look pretty close in size from here. They look on the same scale to me. Just one of them being a bit taller.
The space nun looks a bit taller and so more annoying. Like a 7' girl. I suppose that's more common than nowadays on space ships deprived of gravity and with crazy genetics. ;)

So as you can see, the infinity line has gone from fairly standard 28mm heroic, then dabbled in what some call true 28mm, and now is leaning towards 32mm.

Are we talking "eye level"? I mean, most of the Infinity minis I have are already 32 mm or taller, like 35. So how tall top of skull are those nomad girls? Just out of curiosity.

Yes you're right PF, the space nun ( lol) is about 37mm to the top of her head.

Firstly; thanks for the comparison, much appreciated.

Secondly; yes, I agree that the models do look bigger. Some, like the female Alguacil, are not too bad because they do still have the same proportions as each other. But others like the nun are quite a bit bigger, even though the fluff could support that (they are afterall physically enhanced to some degree).

I don't suppose that CB gave a reason for the new sizes?

I also do agree with you on the rest of the rant - to some extent at least.

I think the quality of the casting, sculpts, and QA is much higher than many other cheaper metal models, and I accept that does cost a bit more. I do agree that they are at the limit of what most of us can afford to pay, and that for that reason I would expect other areas of the game to be polished harder instead.

The rules are fine for the most part, but suffer from some odd abstractions in places that don't really work well in practice. They also have too many skills and equipment that are not properly defined, or which have odd interactions that take too long to resolve.

The FAQs are usually not great either, as they then add more/new interactions that need to be further FAQd (remember the whole airbursting grenades/missiles nonsense?).

Finally, there are some rules that are just crap and need a complete re-write (close combat, retreat, impetuous, coordinated orders, link teams...). These just either don't work, or cause odd interactions, or are not balanced well enough. Unfortunately, these are all rules that do need to be addressed fairly urgently because they are quite important when playing at a more "advanced" level.

Anyway, thanks again for your efforts hubbabubba, and apologies for the mini-rant. I think I probably will get O:I, and see how much I like the 3E rules from there.

Thanks for the comparison, hubbabubba. Again I'm impressed by your painted models. :-*

I think CB has fairly recently switched to 3D sculpting exclusively. IIRC they're using now a limited number of CAD-"armatures" per faction, which hopefully will lead to a more consistent scale. Though most likely even the most recent models before that change were sculpted by hand and by various artists, resulting in scale creep. After all, CB appears to be more of a creative think tank than a thorougly organised company. I like that.
That said, I find some of the sculpts of O:I a bit bland. I much prefer the somewhat distorted Anime style of other, mostly older figures. Happy me that I can pick and choose when playing with just a handful of figures per side ('official rules' or anything that suits me better).

While tempted, I'm gonna scour eBay for the new ed rules once they're in print. I backed Last Saga KS and have two faction sets on the way which should make for good proxy forces.

When they are in print, the 3E rules will be up for free PDF download on their website. Also, so will all the army lists, tokens, templates, and an army builder. All free - CB got that very right at least!  ;)
