What miniatures...
« on: 14 August 2013, 12:37:11 AM »
.. did you play "in the day" but don't play now because they are discontinued/unsupported?

1)  Which ones does it pain you to have OOP?  Would you buy/play them if re-cast?  What do you use now for that era/genre?

2)  Which ones did you think you'd miss but now, in 20/20 hindsight, you see "better" miniatures you would use  instead even if the old figures were re-cast?  What figures are you using in their place and why?

3) which ones did you think were so great but now you see as "okay" and might not buy if re-cast?  What do you use instead and why?

Gracias,

Glenn

my answers tomorrow (or maybe after Tai Chi... if my body says, "okay.")

Grenadier's Traveller Imperial Marines.  I think they were among the best futuristic infantry anybody made.  Have a box somewhere in the basement (wish I could find them, and wish I could buy more!).  One of the keys to proper military equipment is it should look UNIFORM.

I still play with my old prepainted Mage Knight figures, but I am slowly replacing the uglier ones with nice metal minis which I have painted myself.

<snip>

1)  Der Kriegspieler/Custom Cast Dwarf figures.  Ebay is profitable any day I see some posted.  Fortunately I have hundreds of them (and compatible 1970's Ral Partha dwarf figures.)  The DK Lesser Orcs are back in production and I buy them when available as opponents...

2) Sadly most any Starguard human non-Power Armor.  I have some same era Power Armor (manufacturer unknown) that fills the gap against the bugs.  I have some Grenadier and similar figures for "non-PA" troops that I plan to replace someday with... something.

3) Ral Partha/Great Endeavour British (for Spanish Aether Marines for VSF) which I now plan to replace with some Meridian KS figures for skirmish and (OG/Tiger/Gringo40) SAW Spanish for battles.

Gracias,

Glenn

I second that.

I just can't justify them today because I can convert Reaper's Nova Corps figures into Battledress Marines in a more modern scale which looks better with other ranges.  However, great set.

Grenadier's Top Secret Agents boxed set is also a big fave. Not going to ebay them for the same reason.

I agree that Reaper's Nova Corps make pretty good Traveller military figures (and they are coming out in plastic, three to a pack, making them more economical).
