British Mountain Gun query
« on: November 01, 2013, 11:21:17 PM »
I have the Perry British Mountain Gun and crew on the painting table at the moment (part of my steadily growing NW Frontier force) and I was wondering what colour I should paint the gun? Should the main body and wheels be a greyish colour? What about the gun barrel?

Any advice will be most gratefully received...

I suppose blue-grey...
also..i suggest you to adopt the "coward aproach" that i successfully experimented..that is a google search on toys soldiers catalogues..you can be sure that those manufactures had already done an accurate research for you

Try:

Not 100% sure that it is accurate but at least you can point to the photo that you based it on  :)

When I first painted some about 15 years ago I was told they were grey-green...I've never got around to putting them right  lol

I would say dull bronze, certainly for Victorian era gaming.

For later stuff, Edwardian and onwards, perhaps you could go for a painted barrel? But that's really just a guess.

The bronze colour in the Wikipedia pic appears to have been caused by aging as the barrel was made of steel.

Many thanks to you all for the advice and the helpful links.

Steel it'll be for the barrel and wheel bands then (GW Boltgun metal I guess, as that's the darkest 'steel' colour I have in the paints collection!  :)) and a grey colour for the rest of the body...
