On a slightly related topic, Apple have brought out a memory card add-on that you can attach to your iPhone/iPad to upload photos from a regular camera....might get one of these as its always a pain sorting photos after Salute.

How much does this lens cost ? An used digital camera with decent real optical zoom and macro lens cost around 30euros these days. All my pics are made with this kind of camera (6Mpixels).

I was really keen on these till I saw this picture:

Looking at the top left it seems that you have to stick a mounting ring onto the phone/pad and clip the lens to that 

I am not keen on that for the iPad  as I want to sell it as is soon.

I'll just stick with the Lumix compact for now.

I got one for my android phone (had to use the sticky metal ring) and wasn't very impressed. It does the trick for extreme close ups, but why would I want to take close ups of my ham-fisted paintwork!?

That 's why a good 2nd hand digital camera  is a good investment, easy to find for around 30euros, because everyone buy telephones and tablets to take pictures  

WIth a real camera, you'll have compatible Sd card (or any other universal storage card), an OPTICAL zoom (make a HUGE diference for macro pictures), plenty of settings for light conditions, macro distances, color adjustments, and a very good resolution (as I said, mine cost 30euros, and it's 6megapixel...Take a look on my pictures, they are not bad, even if I'm using auto settings and nothing but natural light or my hobby cold lamps).

For hobbyist who like to share his work on forums, blogs, and social networks, a real macro digital camera is as usefull as good brushes...in my humble opinion.

I use my iPhone a lot for pictures and the other thing I would strongly recommend is a tripod, you can get an iPhone adaptor fro a couple of quid to fit any standard tripod (thanks Jay for letting me steal your tripod :-)

I see what you mean. My wife wont like that. Maybe i will have to go with the second hand camera after all.
