Buying a 'Mageye'
« on: 21 February 2014, 05:43:43 PM »
Been painting a lot of 15mm lately. I'm thinking its going to put a lot less strain on my eyes if I was to use a magnifier to see all the small detail.

Is the Mageye any good?

If I was to get one, should I go for the pack with the #2 & #4 or #5 &#7 pack?

thanks Marc.

I bought a Rolson visor after reading reviews and am very happy with it - http://diplomatist2.blogspot.co.uk/2013/08/booty-call.html

I've had one of these for ages and these days couldn't do any modelling at all without them.

I find them better than the typical 'optivisor', they are lighter and much less cumbersome, so you can wear them for longer and because there is no hood, you can look over the lens to do things that don't need magnification without having to adjust them. In fact, if you position them in the right spot, with glasses you can get three different focal lengths (natural, glasses and glasses/Mageye) by moving just your head and eyes.

And believe me, with my rapidly deteriorating eyesight I need all three!  o_o

As to which magnifcation set? I have the 2&4 but I guess it depends on how far gone your eyes are, if they are just starting to go, I would go the lower set.

Cheers!

Thanks for replies.

Will consider the Rolson.

jthomlin is the #2 & #4 the lower set or is it the #5 & #7 the stronger lenses?  My eyes are in good nick at the moment.

The #2 & #4 are the lower magnification set, and given you say your eyes are still OK, then it's the set I would get.

Cheers!
