Having been alerted by sukhe_bator that he's posted new photos, I returned to a topic which I thought I'd missed completely. Having started to read it from scratch, I was surprised to find I'd actually posted on it some time back - so much for my memory.

Anyway, don't those orcs look amazing; great work and most impressive organised in units. Congratulations on pursuing an excellent project over several years and coming up with such a great result.

Earlier in the topic, someone asked who the sculptor was. It was Mark Copplestone.

Also, someone mentioned Grenadier mounted kobolds. I thought I had pretty good recall of what we produced back then but I can't remember mounted kobolds. Anyone got any more info?

Recently, it's been the plastic dwarves that have been selling most but if sukhe_bator's work on the orcs gets to be widely seen, I'm guessing the orcs will outselling the dwarves soon. Well done indeed.

Doug

Bit off topic maybe, but..

These?

and 054 but on the same page so the linky is fine for both.

Must say also that regardless both the orcs and dwarfs are great, well worth more visibility in the hobby for bulking forces out at the very least.

Great for conversions to.

Especially by someone at your level sukhe_bator - would be worth seeing you do some  :D

You know you want to..

And Doug, don't miss out on

Shaved Dwarf's Conversion Adventure - he is doing some cracking work with them as well.

I have to say I am sorely tempted to do a shedload of dwarves,
I like the idea of the crossbowmen with Perry WoTR/HYW archers mantlets and some phalanxes of spear and shield armed khuzdul  :D ;)

Great looking Orc horde.
Give us the recipe for the skin tone? I have a love hate relationship with the GW created green skin idea. Your brown green tone I think has a lot of merit.

Now get on with the dwarfs. A far more noble prospect.

Brandlin,
For many years I was using enamels, but these last few years I've been using acrylics...
I routinely use just five. Zinc white, Burnt umber, Cadmium yellow, Cadmium red, and black. The skin tone is achieved with a mix of brown, yellow, black and white, with a touch of red. A peat brown ink wash is used for lowlights... This gives a range of greenish brown to reddish brown skin tones not unlike the leathery looking skin tones used for the UrukHai in the PJ films.

I have a bucketload of dwarves on order from Em4 as we speak
Warriors dreams, summer grasses, all that remains
