German Colonialism
« on: 24 August 2008, 01:53:50 AM »
Just uploaded a bunch of screencaps from 'Nate and Hayes' into my 'Scenic...' gallery in the Gallery section.  Check under the 'All at Sea' gallery heading.

Imperial German sailors and gunboat in the South Seas, from around 1850-1870.  Fun movie! Enjoy the pics!

Blimey, I never even heard of this film. Tommy Lee Jones and Jenny Seagrove, by the looks of things. It's good, you say?

I've seen this film on TV but I'm sure it had a different title.  Somthing like "Savage Island" or "Cannibal Island" or ....????

Maybe it had a UK title and a different US one?

UK title "Savage Islands", according to IMDB.

Who makes these name-change decisions, and why? It's baffling.

How accurate is the shade of Khaki?
It looks very yellow and I've read that it is only a slightly more yellow shade than eg the British version.

There was a feature in Military Modelling a while back, showing equally yellow khaki, which IIRC was criticised for it being too yellow.

I'd like to do some German colonials eventually, but prefer khaki to the grey uniforms, so I'd like to get it right.

Dig around on that site and you will see colour photos of actual uniforms. Yes, I would say the colour on those plates doesn't get it exactly, but it ain't too far off.

Here's an example:

Thanks very much! I haven't had time to look through the site properly, but will do ASAP.

The Germans are very much a project for the future, but it adds extra incentive to get things rolling if all the reference is available beforehand.

Bearing in mind that, like all khaki, it'll look like that the first day on the parade ground, and different every day after, especially in the field!

Indeed, add to that the German forces in Africa used allot of captured and home made replacement kit..........can get quite varied quickly!
