A wonderful book that does an excellent job of describing the British at war during 1914-18. Opened my eyes to what actually happened on the Western Front. It doesn’t whitewash bad decisios but does explain why and how decisions were made and why battles took the course they did.
Excellent stuff and required reading as an antidote to a media regurgitating the same old myths. The soldiers deserve better than to be remembered as mindless oafs who were herded to their deaths by flint hearted idiots
