Perry afrikakorps as Italians?
« on: 14 October 2014, 06:43:10 PM »
I am just getting into historical gaming and I have the bolt action rule book. My buddy has an army of Brits he is working on and I am looking at the Italians. I like the desert scheme a lot, and I also like the perry miniatures quite a bit. Would their German afrikakorps pass for Italians with some head swaps? Thanks for any help.

The Italians wore different uniforms and equipment and carried different weapons, it is more likely that Germans were seen wearing surplus Italian uniforms.

Why not just use the Perry Italians?

Lovely sculpts!

I think the straight answer is no.  As has been said, different weapons, different uniforms.  You might be able to get away with putting sun helmets on the Afrika Corps and painting them in a more Italian scheme, but it seems a shame not to use actual Italian models seeing as there are so many available at the moment (all in metal though.)  Perrys are the cheapest, at £7 for 6, and you can't go wrong with them, really.  Warlord have a very comprehensive range, and Empress Minis (in the Abyssinia range) and Artizan are also worth a look, though they are less comprehensive.
