Oval cavalry base
« on: 26 November 2014, 10:28:37 AM »
I wanted an oval cavalry base for a mounted model I want to paint up but nobody makes exactly what I require. I've got MDF oval bases but they're not a good match for my slotta bases that I'm using on everything else. So I decided to make my own and cast it using an Oyumaru mould and putty.

There's a bit more waffling about it on my blog (link in my sig). Not exactly a tutorial but it explains what I did and why.

Cor, that's pretty spiffy. What was the procedure for the master?

Have you tried these?

Enough sizes for all uses, I think.

Emilio.

I've got some MDF oval bases but being 2mm thick and straight edged they don't match the plastic slotta bases I'm using for everything else. Some people don't mind that but I'm really picky.  ;)

I used an MDF oval base with the top edge sanded down and stuck a slightly smaller oval of plastic sheet on top to give me the correct height and to take into account the sloping edge. Then I just filled the edge with green stuff and sanded it down. Not too much messing around really. Far easier than I expected to be honest.
