Roman Oval Shields with Spines

I am about to paint up my Praetorian unit and the shields have a spine on them, the LBMS transfers look like you cut them into two and then apply them, or do you use Micro-Sol and put the whole transfer on, any advice?

Have applied lts, cut them in two!
