Another Russian uniform question...
« on: 27 November 2014, 09:05:48 AM »
Sorry folks, another Russian uniform question which I have been unable to answer with Google. Cuprum gave me some very nice links a long time ago, but several of them are dead now and the ones that still work mostly just cover senior officers.

I just need to know the shape of the sleeve patches and also the basic colour and shape of the collar insignia, for 1935 for

1) Sergeant - regular Red Army
2) Corporal - Medic/corpsman - regular Red Army

I know the basic uniform and hats, it's only those insignia I need.

EDIT: I was able to find this: https://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?act=url&depth=1&hl=en&ie=UTF8&prev=_t&rurl=translate.google.ca&sl=ru&tl=en&u=http://army.armor.kiev.ua/forma/rkka-35-40.php&usg=ALkJrhiuiorhXtp5xVAUNo9uLVQ4yCAPsw

but it's not very clear to me what the NCO rank insignia are.

I joined my gun with pirate swords, and sailed the seas of cyberspace.

I found a little more information in Russian. Maybe someone whose Russian is better than mine (i.e. better than fumbling with Google translate) could let me know what that page is saying?

Hello.

The article, which you found describes a later period (1940)

Enlisted personnel and junior officers in the Red Army had no sleeve patch. Only  buttonholes on the collar.

Buttonholes have color depending on the military unit, which served the holder.
Infantry - crimson, edging on three sides - black.
Medical military unit - dark green, border - red.

Insignia placed on the collar. For non-commissioned rank indicated by a red triangle with gold trim.

From left to right, top - down:

petty officer
section commander
Junior platoon commander
Private soldier

Ah! No wonder I couldn't find the sleeve patches! lol

I guess the little pips don't matter too much because at 28mm no one will see them.  ;D

Thanks Cuprum!
