Help please - Looking for alien riding beasts!
« on: 07 September 2015, 04:35:05 PM »
Hi all, I'm hoping to tap into the LAF knowledge bank!

I recently bought a bunch of GW's Gorkamorka muties without mounts and am looking for some suitable alternative beasties to sit them on. The muties are human-sized and originally came with scaly horse-type creatures.

I am looking for replacement 28mm horse-sized mounts (or fractionally larger) that would meet the following criteria:

- quadraped
- suitable for a desert environment
- not dinosaurs
- alien looking

I welcome your suggestions :)

Not truly quadrupeds (though they have a quadruped stance), and slightly dinosaur-like, but...

I would look through the D&D collectible catalog - I used Bulettes for my alien mounts in my Victorian sci-fi army, and there are plenty of other relatively cheap beasts to choose from.  Mage Knight is another source as well.

RAFM sells Gashants for Space 1889.  Bipeds though.

Available with both European tack and no saddle.

The 1889 minis have a reputation for being small compared to modern minis, but the also fit the Martians in the range (taller than humans and closer to modern figures).

What about the old Forge World Tallarn Mukaali Rough Riders? You'd need to take to ebay but size wise and style wise they could fit.
never trust a horse, they make a commitment to shoes that no animal should make.

Thanks all.I'd love the Mukaali mounts nic-e, but fear they're not that accessible for 6-10 models.

So far the Void mounts are looking good (in spite of being dinosaur-y and not quadruped!).
