Rendering/Plastering in 28mm
« on: 24 August 2015, 11:26:14 PM »
Hi All

I have a quick question concerning the best way to render buildings. I'm planning on making some 28mm Greek/Middle Eastern structures and I don't know the best recipe for doing the plaster.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

I use waterproof tile grout ready mixed from Wilkinsons, spread with a pallet knife. High pva content helps and takes washes really well.

Thanks for the advice. I know some people use fillers etc. but I wasn't sure if there was a specific type or is I should be diluting it with pva or water or both.

You can certainly use fillers as well, I just find grout works for me. If you decide to mix your own, I would recommend adding p a and water to dilute. Mixing your own is cheaper but I use mine for bases as well so I use small quantities and it became a faff mixing a small batch so I switched to the ready mixed. Inevitably some goes hard when you get down the tub but it is not expensive. Incidentally, stay away from Tetrion, it is impossibly difficult to carve once set.
