Christmas gifts for miniature hobbyists
« on: 11 December 2015, 01:08:28 PM »
Here's something I just wrote, figured it might be useful and of interest! It addresses something I know a lot of significant others, parents and siblings struggle with - buying a Christmas (or other) gift for a miniature hobbyist.

I to have a simple system, I buy what I want, give it to my wife, she and the kids wrap it up and I act surprised on Christmas morning.  Simple.
After the experience of my wife buying some paint brushes for me a couple years ago I found my system works best.

I do the same, buying ahead for next year's projects. Works a treat!  :D

I've had a similar system, but my wife informed me this year that my pleas for a Hobby Boss 1/48 T34 tank have fallen on deaf ears as she has already got me something. I've never been more scared. I'm paying special attention to those TV ads in the UK with Jeff Goldblum teaching recipients of unwanted gifts how to react properly.  ;)

My wife doesn't disapprove,in fact she recently encouraged me to back an indigogo campaign i mentioned to her, but she doesn't buy me miniatures for Christmas, Never has done, probably never will. It saves on receiving stuff i don't want. I don't mind, one year i asked for a box of twenty quid miniatures and a couple of ospreys- i was told that it wasn't exciting enough, and was given an ipod nano...Didnt really realise until i got one, how much i wanted one...

I always look out for companies having sales in January!...

My wife hates my hobby, hates everything about it. It's quite awful in fact. Mostly because of economics, but time as well.

I have all manner of horror stories. Don't ask.

We don't do Christmas presents over here, but instead we have Sinterklaas, on December 5th.

I only with I'd had that post handy before then, and I would now own less socks and boxershorts and more hobby materials...  lol
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...
