NWF British/Indian army colour
« on: 15 January 2016, 10:01:46 AM »
I am going to base coat my NWF British/Indian army with an Army Painter Primer... but I am unsure whether the Desert Yellow or the Skeleton Bone is the best match.

Can anyone help?

I've been using desert yellow as a base colour for my HAT Sikhs.  I haven't finished any, but I think it's a question of how dark you want your khaki. It's exact colour is a bit of a moveable feast.

I use AK Paints WWI English Uniform (lightest tone) with successive layers of the original colour mixed with Vallejo Model Colour Ivory until I've got a final highlight of pure Vallejo Model Colour Ivory.

Results are below:

Hope that helps?

Cheers,
Darrell.

My recipe is a basecoat of Vallejo German Camouflage Orange so I would go for the dessert yellow as its closest equivalent.

Thanks guys... I ended up buying the Skeleton Bone can as it came closest to the colour I was going for when compared to the Desert Yellow. I plan to use the Soft Tone shade as well so I think the final result will be what I want.

Yes, skeleton bone is the best option; desert yellow is too dark and too... yellow :-), however, soft tone dip is intended for use on white clothing. I think strong tone is a better choice in this instance if you want adequate contrast.

For Hammers: is that a vulture off to the right over the pot of amputations?  Kind of looks like a fantasy monster in the photo.  :?

A real joy to see that vignette again Hammers. I miss your little masterworks and I imagine that between your family obligations and changes in the LPL rules we will never see their like again.

I thank thee. Apart from the text I don't think the current rules prohibits a tableau like mine above.
