Help on a "what if" scenario: Germany vs Japan.
« on: 08 March 2016, 12:41:48 PM »
Hi guys,

My friend and I are are currently firing a few games of BA up, he is using IJA and I am using Panzer Grenadiers. However we are usually driven by narrative and are having trouble coming up with a realistic scenario as to how these two forces would ever face off. Especially geographically. So far we have (and bearing in mind neither of us are deep historians) :

Japan wins at midway, forcing the public's support plummeting back home in the US to the point where the US calls for a ceasefire with the empire allowing Japan to take the entire pacific theatre. Meanwhile Germany invents flying saucers.....just kidding. Germany did not Kick of Barbarossa and had enough resources to drive the Allies back/ built working jet fighters and achieved air superiority. Or the axis get the nuke out of the box first.

However the allies lose the bigger question is where would these two winners collide. I like the 'man in the high castle' approach of fighting for america, but I don't think either side could match the sheer mass production of the U.S, even with nukes on side America would be either too costly to take or a barren nuclear wasteland.

That leaves Asia and India, Perhaps with the allies gone Germany takes Russia and arrives at the ''istan's' or pushes down into India for the massive resources there.

Obviously this all just me thinking up poop, I'm not saying any of this was even remotely close to happening or such like.

Any ideas gents/ ladies?

Jay.

Alot of trouble for a simple game of Bolt Action.

Anyway what I came up with :

- Germany succeeded to win Operation Barbarossa and is now at the borders of Asia. Because Japan surrendered to the US, Hitler decided this to be a weakness by his ally and decides to invade the rest of Asia.

- Oil has been discovered in a remote island on the pacific. Because the Japanese government does not want to share this with the Axis powers, Hitler decides, because of Oil shortage to send out an invasion force to capture the oil.

- Japan surrenders before 1944 to the US. US takes control of Japan and it's army. As soon as D-day is planned, Japanese soldiers are under command of US Generals.

- War is funded by money. We all know Germany submitted money to Swiss bankaccounts from their victims. Little do the Gestapo know, Japanese intelligence has been stealing money from the Swiss bankaccounts to fund their war effort against the US. When all this is discovered, Hitler decides it's time for some revenge.

- A little over the top : Japan defeaded the US and is in control of Northern America and Canada. Because the Empire thinks it's unbeatable, plans to invade Europe are made.

- Even more over the top : Atlantis has been discovered !!! The Waffen SS occult division plans a search party, little do they know, Japanese intelligence discovered the same place also.

Thanks for the swift reply; I know it seems a lot of effort lol. But I wargame for the narrative more than anything else. I like the atlantis variant. Thats the 'few beers' scenario from now on.

 lol

Go crazy on the Atlantis narrative ... It could be anything : the spear of destiny, Noah's ark, some ancient Samurai immortal knowledge ...

Another one that's not that over the top and a bit historical

- Russia suffered a defeat against Japan. Operation Barbarossa is a succes and German forces meet the Japanese in Moscow ... things turn out not to be friendly
