We stopped down at Asan Beach today where the 3rd Marines landed in 1944. Today it is part of the War in the Pacific National Historic Park. Preparations for Memorial Day tomorrow include placing an American flag for each of the troops that lost their lives in the campaign. The dark blue flags are the Guam flag and represent the indigenous Chamorro that were caught between the two armies. This is only a partial view as I couldn't get all of the flags in the view of my camera.

Here is a view toward the ridge that the Marines assaulted having made it off the beach. It is hard rugged terrain that is bad enough just to hike much less fight over in high heat.
